1 sleeping bag (waterproofed!)
1 ground cloth
1 foam pad
1 small pocket knife
1 plastic coffee cup
1 deep plastic bowl or plate
1 spoon
1 small insect repellent (non-aerosol)
1 sun screen
1 sweatshirt, jacket, or sweater
2 bandannas
1 sunglasses
1 chapstick
1 toothbrush + paste
1 soap (in plastic bag)
1 toilet paper (in plastic bag)
1 lightweight long sleeve shirt
1 lightweight long pants
1 brimmed hat
1 small flashlight (AA plus extra batteries + bulb)
1 poncho
1 web belt
1 swim suit or wet shorts
1 wet sneakers (canvas bobo's are best - no aqua socks)
1 first aid kit (including moleskin and bandaids)
1 eyeglass holder or tie on
6-12 ziplock bags (various sizes)
1-2 water bottles (2 qt total)
6 clothes pins
cash ($10-15 max)
 
1 small pad + pencil (optional)
1 small comb (optional)
1 camera + film (optional)

Packing considerations:

  • No poncho in canoe...bring a water repellent jacket instead
  • Waterproofing is essential. Double bag everything and triple bag valuables
  • The river eats loose items. Tie everything in but yourself!
  • The clothing that you wear caving will get very dirty...some old clothing is ideal for that day!
Canoeing Segment [4 days; 3 nights]

1 dry shoes (hiking boots?)
2 drum liners/bands
1 windbreaker (water resistant)
1 towel (bath size)
3 trash bags
1 1/8 inch rope, 50 feet (1/4 inch is acceptable)
6 dry cotton socks (wear one)
4 shorts w/pockets (wear one)
4 underwear (wear one)
4 short sleeve shirts (wear 1)
Caving Segment [1 day; 1 night] 
1 bike, football, or canoe helmet or winter skull cap
1 flashlight, large (C cell or larger w/spare bulb + fresh batteries)
1 long pants
1 sweatshirt
1 short sleeve shirt
1 socks
1 underwear
1 lighter + candle (in plastic bag)
1 small carrying bag for odds 'n ends
1 gloves (optional)
1 knee pads (optional)
